Why Ballista (in small numbers) makes you take more damage?

Hi ,

I am noticing that during the exercise with the following combination I get more casualty if I add a small amount of balista .

Attackers

1 Warrior
1 Pike Man
1 Swordsman
100,000 Archers
1 cavalry
1 cataphart

VS

400,000 K warriors

with this set up attackers win with 8841 Archers casualty and all the 1's.

if I add up to 2000 ballista attackers get more causlties than before.Than if you add 200K ballista plus ex. 2500 you start getting less casualties then before.

Can anyone explain this curve to me please?
